During the MENASOL 2013 fair (14-15 May, Dubai), Steven Griffith, the CEO of Initiatives at the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) and a member of the Emirati Council for Solar Energy Industries, confirmed that UAE will have the capacity, in economic terms, to produce more than 20GW of solar energy in 2030. Griffith also noted that in 2017, the Middle East may need 120GW of energy to meet the rapidly growing regional demand for electricity.
