The Desertec Initiative participants agreed to create new partnerships in the area of green energy. The German Desertec project aims to harness the desert sun and wind energy to meet 15% of Europe’s electricity needs by 2025. As part of this regional cooperation, 2,000 MW of solar, 2,000 MW of wind and 2,000 MW of hydropower is expected to be produced by 2020.
The Algerian government plans to build its first solar plant between 2016 and 2017.
