ComicMedCarnaval Contest Rules “Alexandria, Culture and the Mediterranean”

1. Purpose of the contest

The purpose of the contest is to promote artistic creativity in comic book format, highlighting the culture of the Mediterranean region. The contest is part of the celebration of Alexandria as the 2025 Mediterranean Capital of Culture.

2. Participants

Anyone over the age of 18, regardless of nationality or country of residence, may participate.

3. Theme

Alexandria + culture + Mediterranean

4. Format and length

• The work must be an original and unpublished comic.
• Length:

Minimum: one comic strip.

Maximum: one comic page.

• Digital format required (.jpg, .png or .pdf).
• Recommended size: A4 or similar, minimum resolution of 300 dpi.

5. Language

The work may be submitted in any language.

However, a translation of the comic text into Arabic, English, French or Spanish (one of these four options) must be included.

The translation may be sent in a separate document.

6.  Submission of comics:

   * It must be posted by tagging Al Fanar on Instagram (@_al.fanar) or Facebook (@fundacionalfanar) and including #comicMEDcarnaval.

   * And sent by email to contacto@fundacionalfanar.org by 23:59 on 15 December 2025. The subject line must read ‘ComicMEDCarnaval’. All entries will receive an acknowledgement of receipt. The submission must include:

• Comic file.
• Translation of the comic text (Arabic, English, French or Spanish).
• Word document with the following info:

1. Comic title
2. First and last names.
3. Nationality.
4. Confirmation Age +18.
5. Email and/or contact telephone number.
6. Short biography (max. 100 words)
7. Optional: Photo or drawn portrait.

Personal data will be used exclusively for the management of the competition in accordance with the Al Fanar Foundation’s data policy, which can be consulted here.

7. Jury

The jury will be composed of specialists in comics, art and Mediterranean studies. Their decisions will be final.

The following will be assessed:

• Originality and artistic quality.
• Relevance and creativity in the interpretation of the theme.
• Clarity of the graphic narrative.
• Cultural or reflective contribution.

8. Prizes

• 18 Dec. 2025: Honourable mention for the 10 finalists
• 22 December 2025: First prize: €200

9. Copyright and use of the works

• The authorship of the works will remain entirely with their creators.
• No commercial use of the submitted works will be permitted.
• By participating, authors grant the organisation a non-exclusive licence to reproduce, display and disseminate the works for cultural, educational and promotional purposes related to the competition, on a non-profit basis and always mentioning the authorship. Otherwise, this must be indicated in the email sending the work.

Bases del Concurso de ComicMedCarnaval “Alejandría, cultura y Mediterráneo”

1. Objetivo del concurso

El concurso tiene como finalidad promover la creatividad artística en formato cómic poniendo en valor la cultura en el espacio mediterráneo. El concurso se enmarca en la celebración de Alejandría como Capital Cultural Mediterránea 2025.

2. Participantes

Podrán participar todas las personas mayores de 18 años de cualquier nacionalidad y país de residencia.

3. Temática

Alejandría + cultura + Mediterráneo

4. Formato y extensión

• La obra deberá ser un cómic original e inédito.
• Extensión:
  • Mínimo: una tira de cómic.
  • Máximo: una página de cómic.
• Formato digital obligatorio (.jpg, .png o .pdf).
• Tamaño recomendado: A4 o similar, resolución mínima de 300 dpi.

5. Idioma

La obra puede presentarse en cualquier idioma.

Sin embargo, deberá incluirse obligatoriamente una traducción del texto del cómic a árabe, inglés, francés o español (una de estas cuatro opciones).
La traducción puede enviarse en documento aparte.

7. Debe publicarse etiquetando a Al Fanar en Instagram (@_al.fanar) o Facebook (@fundacionalfanar) and including #comicMEDcarnaval
8. enviarse por correo electrónico a contacto@fundacionalfanar.org

hasta el 15 de diciembre de 2025 a las 23:59h. Debe nombrar en el asunto “ComicMEDCarnaval”. Todas las obras recibirán un acuse de recibo. El envío debe incluir:

1. Archivo del cómic.
2. Traducción del texto del cómic (árabe, inglés, francés o español).
3. Ficha de participación con:
   • Título del cómic
   • Nombre y apellidos.
   • Nacionalidad.
   • Confirmación de que eres mayor de 18 años.
   • Email y/o teléfono de contacto.
   • Breve biografía (máx. 100 palabras)
   • Opcional: Foto o retrato dibujado.

Los datos personales se usarán exclusivamente para la gestión del concurso siguiendo la política de datos de la Fundación Al Fanar que puede consultar aquí.

7. Jurado

El jurado estará compuesto por especialistas en cómic, arte y estudios mediterráneos. Sus decisiones serán inapelables.

Se valorará:

• Originalidad y calidad artística.
• Pertinencia y creatividad en la interpretación de la temática.
• Claridad del relato gráfico.
• Aportación cultural o reflexiva.

8. Premios

La organización otorgará los siguientes premios:

• 18 Dic. 2025: Mención honorífica para los 10 finalistas
• 22 Dic. 2025: Primer premio: 200€

9. Derechos de autor y uso de las obras

• La autoría de las obras seguirá siendo plenamente de sus creadores/as.
• No se permitirá ningún uso comercial de las obras presentadas.
• Al participar, las personas autoras ceden a la organización una licencia no exclusiva para reproducir, mostrar y difundir las obras con fines culturales, educativos y de promoción del concurso, sin ánimo de lucro y siempre mencionando la autoría. En caso contrario debe indicarse en el correo de envío de la obra.
